The monumental full circle opera
Humanistic «Pietro e Lucia» based on the popular story of the Nobel Prize
winner Romain Rolland «Pierre et Luce»,
…dedicated to all the innocent victims of war and terrorism…
Immortal love story of Peter and Lucia from Rolland’s famous anti-war story revived in the form of opera-ballet drama with an Italian name Pietro e Lucia. Its modern message is a call for common battle of people of all continents against international terrorism and local wars. On monumental scene, employing state of the art 3D technology and hydraulic systems, including 3D animation and graphics, viewers will welcome more than 150 top artists from Slovakia, Russia, Italy, Germany and the UK.
Under the baton of the charismatic Italian conductor Marcello Rota, which is the courtly conductor of the world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli, audience will see top ballet soloists from Moscow, in the rock section you will see top Slovak pianist Juraj Tatár and to evoke the atmosphere of old Paris there will be an accordion virtuoso Michal Červienka. Opera stars from Milan will also introfuce themselves as part of the performance. Fans saw live, the lead guitarist of English pop star Lily Allen, James Nisbet, an excellent German bass guitarist Lars Lehmann, known for working with James Brown Orchestra and multi-instrumentalist Ossy Pffeifer of “city of Rock” – Hannover. Maestro Marcello Rota is currently the best conductor in the world and is the brother of Oscar-winning composer Nina Rota, who was a musical partner of film director Federico Fellini. Marcello Rota was delighted by Pietro e Lucia mainly because he considers the work to be a neoclassical return to traditional melodic Italian opera, full of noble feelings, temperament and passion. Since there are only a few new, highly attractive operas in the world, for Maestro Rota, the “marriage” of challenging scores of symphonic music and uncompromising English-German rock is very inspiring and he will gladly be part of the rebirth of eternal love story of Peter and Lucia in the form of monumental opera-ballet drama. Representatives of Pietro, Lucia and Jesus Christ are motivated similarly. One of the best students of Pavarotti, Teatro La Scala favorite, tenor Salvatore Cordella, opera diva Doriana Milazzo and rising tenor star Mario Malagnini are all part of this incredible project.
Aria that foreign radio listeners know under the name of “Amore Vittoria”, was sung by Peter Dvorský, accompanied by English Philharmonic musicians, by Prague Philharmonic Choir and Czech hard-rock band Motorband. It is a nice paradox that it has reached the greatest success when it was ranked to playlist of legendary English DJ Steve Price who heavily rotated it on heavy metal music stations …
Music for Pietro and Lucia has already been recorded. Proof that music like this is very special suggests not only the above mentioned list of renowned world-class musicians and musical groups that decided to interpret it, but also that the mixing of this music took place in London Up 4 Loud Productions Ltd. personally by legendary English sound designer Alan Snelling.
Artistic experimenter and “comic magician” Tomáš Roller is an art designer of the whole project. Wonderful costumes, with attention to scenic detail, were designed by Ľubka Jarjabková. Non-traditional artistic masks were taken care of by the team led by Juraj Steiner.
Original music and libretto for Pietro e Lucia was written by Slovak composer Dušan Rapoš that our viewers know well as one of the commercially most successful Czechoslovak film directors and producers, but less as a famous music author for dozens of foreign films and composer of the first Slovak and American Ballet “Children of Titanic”, that was created 10 years ago in collaboration with American choreographer Christopher d’Amboise from New York and the Slovak National Theatre Ballet. The author of arias is a favorite Czech actress and poet Eva Vejmělková. Turning texts of the arias into poems was in the hands of an Italian poet and musician Armando Calvo from Turin. For choreography of dance works, Jaroslav Moravčík was approached.
Symphonic-rock opera-ballet form of “Pierre et Luce”, the Italian name “Pietro e Lucia” (subtitled “Requiem for the 20th Century”), is wider and multilayer artistic reflection on senseless suffering of humankind in the last centuries of the second millennium, which in the form of local wars and international terrorism carried over into the next century of new millennium. At the same time it is also a story of reconciliation, faith and hope that the third millennium will bring on the wings of childlike innocence and purity, the spiritual space for a return to mutual respect and understanding. Hope that the immaculate children’s hands in us will once reach the doorknob of imaginary temple of the human heart open to love and humble prayer for return to God of goodness inside of a man.
